Fozen Teasel

Hi, I'm in a part of the country where winter seems to have only just arrived. We had a hard frost this morning, so I went out early to see if I could take any good photos. This one was my favourite, and shows some self sown Teasel covered in frost.

Cotoneaster covered in frost

Here is my attempt at frozen photography. It is a Cotoneaster that runs along a wall. The picture looks really good on my computer, as I can zoom into the image and see the ice crystals. But to upload that photo to this site would have taken ages on my slow broadband. As such I have reduced the size of the photo, but you do lose some detail I'm afraid.

Frozen lawn looking toward Larch tree

I took this picture the other day. We haven't had many frosts this winter, and we need it to help the fruit trees flower.

I think its called 'Vernalization' which is the trigger for fruit trees to flower after a cold period. If we don't get the cold we won't get as many flowers, and therefore fruit at the end of the summer.

Early morning pond

All your photos look great. in siz months time we'll all be moaning its too hot.

This picture is of my dog by a pond the other morning. The thing to note really is that the water level in the pond is well down. I know this pond well, and it's usually overflowing at this time of year. It's a good 18 inches from being full, so unless there is a few weeks heavy rainfall, this pond will be at a disadvantage going into the spring and summer, just like a lot of reservoirs around the country. I feel a hose pipe ban coming on.
